The spiritual journey unfolds over time, as mystics down through the ages have told us. Too often, we identify our journey with waking consciousness. Yet the great wisdom traditions of the world remind us that our dreams, too, are stages along the journey of the soul: Call, Search, Struggle, Breakthrough and Return. To understand the message of our dreams is not a petty form of self-indulgence, but a spiritual ritual of cultural and ecological significance. Each night our dreams invite us both to know ourselves and to embark on a spiritual journey that can change the world.
