As a little girl, I looked forward to Vacation Bible School each summer.  I was raised in a small farming community in rural Illinois, and VBS was the social event of the season for us kids.  We would sing songs, eat cookies, make crafts and learn about the Bible.  It was the BEST!  One song in particular has stuck with me through the years.  Its lyrics follow:

Don’t build your house on the sandy land.
Don’t build it too near the shore.
Well it might look kinda nice,
But you’ll have to build it twice,
you’ll have to build your house once more.

You’ve got to build your house upon the rock.
Make a strong foundation in a solid spot.
For the storms will come and go,
But the peace of God you will know.

This song was inspired by the Bible verse found in Matthew 7: 24-27 in which Jesus is wrapping up his sermon on the mount. He addresses the crowd with this: “Therefore, everyone who listens to these words of mine and acts on them will be like a sensible man who built his house upon the rock.  Rain came down, floods rose, gales blew and hurled themselves against that house, and it did not fall: it was founded on rock.  But everyone who listens to these words of mine and does not act on them will be like a stupid man who built his house on sand.  Rain came down, floods rose, gales blew and struck that house, and it fell; and what a fall it had!”

We can think about the house as a metaphor for our faith.  And what builds our house of faith is our consciousness itself.  So, when we place our faith in all that is enduring and True, True with a “big T,” it’s like building a strong foundation in all that unchanging, in the Essence of God, that which is change-less and eternal. And the more we place our faith in THAT, the more we expand and elevate our consciousness itself.

Our founder Ernest Holmes put it this way in the Science of Mind textbook, “The wise man builds his house on the solid rock of Truth, and not on the shifting sands of instability.  He…estimates Reality by that which is real and enduring.”  What Ernest is saying here is that when we align our faith and our consciousness with Truth, it’s like a solid rock.  When we place our faith in this shifting world of form, this shifting world of external circumstances, we can be sure that all will eventually come tumbling down.  And, as Jesus said, what a fall it will be!

So we are often at choice point in our lives.  When the storms of life come, we have a choice:  to place our faith aligned with Truth and to deepen and expand our consciousness (ROCK) or to place our faith in the land of form (SAND), which is always changing and will be shifting much like sand does.

As the storms of your life appear, I’d invite you to ask yourself, where am I placing my faith?  Am I aligned within my awareness with the Truth that is God or am I more aligned with the land of form?  And, if your present choice isn’t working for you, choose again!  That’s the beauty of life, in each moment we have the power to choose and choose again.

Wishing you many peaceful moments.

Affirmation:  I have unwavering faith in the Divine.  All of my life is well and good in the Divine. Spirit is the Rock in which I place my faith.

Treatment:
Breathing and relaxing deeply, feel in this present moment all is One, One in the Presence of God.  Feel the presence and essence that is Spirit, is Life, and know that that essence is love, peace, and harmony, and It, is Infinite.   I know this essence of God is expressing through every heart, through every individual.  Spirit is the anchor of Truth upon which faith is built.  And even thought the apparent storms of life come and go, Spirit is the constant, the unifying force of love that anchors every individual heart in peace.  I know that to have faith is to surrender completely into the presence of Spirit, feeling and knowing that love is the unifying force and foundation for every thought, creation and life experience.   Only peace, only love is the essence of each soul and is the root of every circumstance of life.   Together we listen for that still small voice, and we allow that Voice of God to inform every action.  We feel that touch of grace and listen deeply for guidance, being open, being receptive and receiving the deep awareness of Truth.    For this I am so grateful, so deeply blessed and thankful to feel the Truth of these words and to know they are made manifest as spoken.  I give thanks and release these words into the Law of Love in Action and with this love, gratitude and knowing, I affirm, and so it is.
