The Value of Listening

C.S. Lewis once said, “The first demand any work of art makes upon us is surrender. Look. Listen. Receive.” This sentiment holds true in the spiritual life as well. Listening is a fundamental aspect of spiritual growth and deepening one’s connection with the divine. When we listen, we open ourselves up to receiving the wisdom and guidance that the universe is trying to impart to us. Through quiet contemplation, prayer, and meditation, we create space within ourselves to hear the still, small voice of our intuition and the divine.

Listening is an act of humility and surrender — essential virtues for any spiritual seeker. When we listen, we acknowledge that we do not have all the answers and that there is wisdom beyond our own understanding. It is through listening that we can let go of our ego and open ourselves up to the divine plan for our lives. By cultivating the art of listening, we can deepen our spiritual practice, find greater meaning and purpose in our lives, and connect more fully with the divine.
