From a 360 view, such as from the top of some high building, the world looks a lot different. Sometimes this is the perspective that we need in life and our relationships.
When we are too close things can get muddled and confusing. Loving and respecting ourselves means being clear on what works for us and what doesn’t. Loving and respecting ourselves gives us the space to figure that out when we are not clear. Taking our feelings into meditation and treatment can give us that space. Counseling and journaling are also valuable options to gain this lucidity.
We tend to take ourselves and our lives far too seriously. Often what results from taking some space is the realization that we took something personally. That the person in question was just human and so were you.
Sometimes for whatever reason it is time to love someone from a distance. To actually give yourself physical space and distance from the other.
While we are indeed One Energy, we as humans are individualized expressions. Giving ourselves space and time to figure out what is right for us is one of the healthiest and gentlest things we can do for ourselves and for others in our life. – April Conner, RScP
Practice Speed Writing
A great way to set up the context of speed writing is to look at what’s working in your life and what’s not working and then make a choice from one of these two categories.
Once you have a clear idea about what the topic is, find a quiet place where you won’t be disturbed, have a journal or something to write on and a pen or pencil and a timer. Set the timer for three minutes, close your eyes, take a big breath, and just start writing.
Speed writing is not about planning or thinking about what you’re writing, it is literally just writing in a stream of consciousness fashion. Ignore grammar, spelling or sentence structure, the object is just to write and write and write! If there’s nothing coming to mind to write about, write that! I don’t have anything to write about! The intention is to be physically moving your hand in the writing process for the full three minutes.
Speed writing accesses the brain in a very unique and powerful way. Play with the amount of time, the number of repetitions, possibly even incorporate this in a daily spiritual practice. This can be a powerful tool to investigate challenge areas or to acknowledge and celebrate joy’s in your life.
