Musical Joy and Inspiration

Music is a key element of all civilizations and spiritual traditions. It is a second language that brings us closer to our better selves and the people we love. Perhaps no other medium brings us starkly face-to-face with the deep emotions and spiritual yearnings that are all too frequently ignored and even repressed in our modern world. In this celebration of joyful and inspirational music, Karen Karsh will perform a wide variety of music from secular and spiritual sources and…

When Depression is Awakening; Letting Go of Attachment in the Service of God

Depression is very common in our modern age, in large part because many have lost awareness of the spiritual basis of their existence. One is susceptible to depression when suffering from spiritual dysfunctionalities, such as: no strong basic values; no purpose in life; no recognition of the Sacred Within; or over-bearing attachments to things antithetical to one’s soul. The good news is that disciplined development of a spiritual life will inexorably release the shackles of most depression. In this presentation,…

Mantra Meditations with a Master

Meditation is an ancient practice that is an integral part of a spiritual life and is advocated by all spiritual traditions in one form or another. Meditation quiets the mind, reveals one’s essential nature, and allows the soul to hear the whispers of Sacred Spirit. In this presentation, Ray Wynfield will give an overview of meditation practices and its benefits, and then lead attendees through several Mantra Meditations. He will start with Neti, Neti, a classic Hindu meditation roughly translated…

When all is not so harmonious and one is riddled with anxiety and doubt, it is relatively hard to contact the Sacred or feel the flow of grace from inside into the world, and one’s faith can be shaken to the core. It appears inevitable that such periods of darkness will visit everyone,…

Greater Peace via the Enneagram

The enneagram is a powerful and dynamic system that describes nine fundamentally different personality types, defined as patterns of believing, thinking, feeling, and acting. (“Ennea” is Greek for nine.) These nine distinct patterns describe what individuals typically pay attention to, how they direct their energy, what underlying spiritual beliefs they tend to develop, and how childhood perception of “threats” or fears provided an unconscious impetus for shaping spiritual values and morality. Each person has a dominant personality type, with some…

Fierce Love & Radical Vulnerability

umanity faces a profound reckoning, a collective rite of passage that is calling forth our deepest capacities for fierce love and radical vulnerability. In response, the platitudes can come easily: all the things we “should” be doing personally and collectively. And the reactive responses rooted in fear and insecurity come even easier and the big picture gets lost. The most inconvenient truths are seldom aired, deeper discussions are all too rare, and real dialogue among people with different worldviews remains…

Dreams and the Stages of the Soul

The spiritual journey unfolds over time, as mystics down through the ages have told us. Too often, we identify our journey with waking consciousness. Yet the great wisdom traditions of the world remind us that our dreams, too, are stages along the journey of the soul: Call, Search, Struggle, Breakthrough and Return.  To understand the message of our dreams is not a petty form of self-indulgence, but a spiritual ritual of cultural and ecological significance.  Each night our dreams invite…
