September 11 came and went again, 17 years after the 2001 event that brought my country to her knees. Being born way back in the mid-1900s, I never thought I would see the day! So much has been learned since then and so much still to learn.
For our September spiritual movie we watched “Sully”. TheAirbus A320 landing on the Hudson River that day in 2009 and what followed for Captain Chesley Sullenberger and Co-pilot Jeff Skiles, was an example of strength and pure faith, fearlessness, integrity, perseverance, confidence and consummate trust, to say the least. I thought it would be good timing a couple days after the anniversary of 9/11 to show a movie with this quote from airline Captain Carl Clark, “You know, it’s been a while since New York had news this good. Especially with an airplane in it.”
So every month on second Wednesdays, join us in the Affinity Theater with big cushy chairs, actual movie theater popcorn, and good company all at no charge. Watch for details in upcoming newsletters and Sunday announcements at the center. Again, thank you to Pat Brazee for hosting us for all these movies in that special place. Grateful! With that said, I better get busy and pick a good October movie!
On Sunday, Rev. Masando Hiraoka spoke at the center. He reminds us about the gift of Light and Dark in the shorter days of Fall and Winter, with the longer dark nights as a time for slowing down, reflection and introspection. At the Taos Pueblo in NM, after all the harvest is in, following a feast on September 29 this is traditionally and officially called ‘Quiet Time’. They’re so smart with their ancient traditions and such.
Enjoy the Fall colors and I hope to see you at the center.
Love & Light,
