The Dances of Universal Peace is an international practice created in the 1960’s, with hundreds of published and non-published Dances shared all over the world. The Dances are essentially spiritual practice in motion. Drawing on the sacred phrases, scripture, and poetry of the many spiritual traditions of the earth, the Dances blend chant, live music and evocative movement into a living experience of unity, peace and integration, evoking a deep spiritual revolution within the person. As the Sufis have shown for centuries, sacred dance induces a spiritual trance that transcends ordinary reality and brings one into commUnity with all. In the Dances, participants join hands forming a circle with the Dance leader in the center. The leader teaches the simple sacred phrase, melody, and movements for each Dance, and dances last for 10-20 minutes. Come and dance yourself into new vistas of spiritual consciousness! Presenter Biography: Dance leader Emily Rose delved into Native American practices before becoming immersed in Dances of Universal Peace. She took part in sweat lodge ceremonies, circle gatherings involving singing, drumming, and dancing, and Blessing Way ceremonies. During this time, she also began chanting Shiva chants all night on full moons and learning about Hinduism & Buddhism, discovering and feeling the common threads connecting ALL “major religions” and “Pagan” earth-based ways as well. She studied and apprenticed Midwifery for 6 years, and sang to the mothers during labor. The Dances of Universal Peace showed up during a painful period of her life, and were a blessed healing balm to her heart. After many years of practicing the dances, she studied with Dance master Timothy Dobson, and was certified to lead the Dances in 2001. She has led Dances ever since, and now facilitates a bi-monthly Dance gathering in Boulder, Colorado, on the second and fourth Fridays of each month.
