Spirituality is deeply imbedded in the well-known 12-step programs addressing addiction, such Alcoholics Anonymous (AA). Grounded in that spirituality, these programs have had remarkable success in helping people overcome addiction. However, the traditional concepts and language- such as reference to a higher power- present problems for Buddhists and other non-western traditions. This presentation first gives a brief overview of the 12 steps, emphasizing their underlying universal spirituality, and then explores re-interpretations that resolve the conflicts with non-western spiritual beliefs. The presenter is Clay Rose, founder of the well-known Gasoline Lollipops band and a renowned entertainer. Clay was raised as a Buddhist by his father, and remains deeply grounded in Buddhism. He is also a recovering drug addict and alcoholic, embracing the AA programs and sponsoring recovering addicts. His perspectives on Buddhism, spirituality, and recovery programs are unique and of value to all spiritual seekers. Zoom link: https://us02web.zoom.us/j/88550690133
