Balance And Being Gentle With Ourselves

One of the conversations that came up in the last class, Self-Care, Balance and Deep Community Connection was how do we bring balance into areas of our life where we’re stuck? We have many different domains or areas; mental, physical, spiritual, etherical, relational, financial and probably many more. In some domains we have much expertise, practice and power and in others less so. One example  is that I’ve had a stretching practice for something like 45 years and four or five months ago I stopped. I got more and more tight, it was harder for me to move, concentrate and my attention was often on how much I hurt! A Prayer Partner asked if I could just do a few stretches a day? This got the wheels turning and I tried it. It made a huge difference!

One of the things that I noticed was that I was making myself wrong and being hard on myself. I caught this and realized I was miserable when I was judging myself. When I was mad at myself it stopped me from restarting the practice. I started being very gentle and taking baby steps. It made it so much easier!  Almost every day now I’m doing at least some stretching, and once or twice a week the full practice flows! Do you have areas in your life where you’re stuck? I invite you to take a breath, start taking small actions consistently and be gentle with yourself!
